Guiding Someone Through the Steps

Of A Major Event in Your Life...

1. You’re asleep in your bed

2. You hear the door open and your dad asking you to get up and come talk to him and the rest of the family.

3. You slunk out of bed wondering what he’s doing home so early in the morning when he’s supposed to be at work.

4. You walk into the office where your mom and brother are waiting patiently to hear what your father has to say.

5. He asks you to sit down and shuts the door.

6. He fidgets a moment, trying to find peace. You stare patiently, thoughts racing through your head. You have no idea what is going on.

7. You watch him as he opens his mouth and says, “I have leukemia. It’s a rare form and they caught it early. I just thought I should let you all know. “

8. You sink into your chair. Time suddenly stops. All of the warmth leaves your body. You are in completely shock.

9. You get up as tears are running down your face and give your dad a hug as he breaks down and cries.

10. You become the comfort to the one person who you have always looked up to, who has always comforted you.
